Today, we were focused on getting ready for the girls' ringette tournament which starts tomorrow morning. We had their skates sharpened this morning which is why they're sitting here, outside of their equipment bags.
Thirteen years old! I promised her a hot chocolate to come to the rink for M and G's ringette games rather than staying home alone on her birthday for 3+ hours. She was a good sport hanging out with us at the Coop this evening. :)
Due to the windchill warning, I took the girls to school and went to work an hour later than usual. This was my view of sunrise in the industrial area where I work. (Shot on my BlackBerry; edited in Snapseed.)
Neil started selling Steeped Tea recently, so I took some to work for my coworkers to try, and I wore my running shoes at work today because we were having a fun "Office Olympics" event at lunch time. (Today's event was a typing speed competition so I didn't really need my runners!)
Sick day. G had a fever last night (39.4 C) and a headache this morning, so we kept her home from school and piano. This evening, she seems completely well! (Taken at 9:30 am. The light in our living room is pitiful this time of year.)
Last week, S missed 2.5 days of school with a fever, chills, headache, sore throat, and congestion.
M (far left) and G (far right) in their Irish dance class. It was M's 11th birthday today and I took birthday pictures, of course, but I chose this picture because it's rare for me to get a good dance class photo (especially one I can post - no faces) and it only exists because of this project!
Neil made M's favourite meal for her birthday: chicken fingers (homemade) and fries. I also made her a birthday cake with real-whipped-cream fluffy frosting.
Today was all about housework and dog sitting. We had three dogs here; our own (Dash) plus two from different families (Chloe and Yogi). Madeline took this picture of Yogi and me after I took some pictures of them which were not as good. I'm using it since I initiated the picture-taking and my 365 project is more about capturing our life than sticking to rules!
Mise en place. Mmmm, we had a tasty supper tonight. Asian Pork Lettuce Wraps (with real butter, not what the recipe calls for) and toasted almond brown rice with broccoli (from The Fresh 20 - past subscription).
So far, so good. It hasn't been too challenging to get my daily pictures done (other than the lack of daylight this time of year). And I'm happy with them. Collectively, these pictures say "January" to me, and I like that.

To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of
to appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
to leave the world a little better;
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is the meaning of success.
