I've had an extremely busy three days and I'm so very tired right now. There's no way I can get into details of the weekend thus far, but I just have to get this one bit down...
Neil had to work today (which is unusual because they rarely work Sundays, but harvest is so behind right now, it's important they keep going while the weather is cooperating), so I was on my own to get the household chores done and watch the kids. Whether I like it or not, Sunday is our day for laundry and groceries and it has to get done on Sunday or it just won't get done.
It seems Madeline's at that age where you just can't take your eyes off of her or she'll be doing something or getting into something she's not supposed to. Usually it's something like getting a cup, filling it with drinking water, and then spilling it all over the floor.
Well, today I had to go downstairs once in awhile to keep the laundry going. I went down to put a load in and I was down there for maybe two minutes when I heard Madeline calling "mummy, mummy!" from the top of the stairs. So I came upstairs as soon as possible and she led me to the hallway, pointed, and said "oh-oh". There was poo on the floor in the hallway (hardwood, thank goodness!). I said "oh-oh" too. Then she led me to the bathroom, pointed, and said "oh-oh". There was poo on the floor in the bathroom. I said "oh-oh" too. But then I saw something else. There was poo in the potty too! What a smart little girl! She had it all figured out; she just didn't sit there long enough! I praised her, of course, and then we started cleaning up.
I picked up each deposit and threw it in the toilet and we said "bye-bye" as we sent the poo to the 'poopy party' (I learned that from Laurel). So I cleaned everything with a Lysol wipe and Madeline followed up with toilet paper, wiping the floor just as I had. Then when all was clean, including her bum, we proceeded to wash our hands.
At that point, I took her to her room to put her diaper back on which was still completely dry. Madeline put up the biggest fight ever. She did NOT want that diaper back on, and she's usually very cooperative about that. So I thought maybe she'd be happier trying to put on a pull-up type diaper by herself, so I gave her one and set her down on the floor. She didn't want that either and wanted to go back into the bathroom. Well I thought she just wants to wipe her bum and wash her hands again because she always wants to do that, and we'd already done that, so I closed the bathroom door. I walked away and left her crying at the bathroom door.
It couldn't have been more than 10 or 20 seconds later when Madeline came down the hall to the kitchen and I'm not sure what she said or did, but I knew I had to go back toward the bathroom. Well, there was a puddle of pee right in front of the bathroom door. I felt really bad!!! I'm sure that if I had let her go back into the bathroom when she wanted, she would have peed in the potty.
I guess I'd better listen to Madeline from now on! I just can't believe how eager she is to use the potty. She's still so young, and it's so different from potty-training a 33-month old (Sophia's age when she started using the potty) because she doesn't have as much vocabulary yet. I must say it's great though! She'll probably be trained by the time she's two. I just need to really tune in and pay attention to what she wants.
