So, about yesterday's ultrasound... As far as I know, everything looks good. Ten fingers and ten toes! The baby's weight (367 grams or 12.9 oz) and measurements were right in line with our due date (yesterday was 20 weeks 2 days and the baby measured 20 weeks 3 days), so I know she's growing fine. Yes, it looks like we're having a girl! I'm quite fine with that too; in fact, I feel a little relieved because it seems simpler to have three girls. And Neil? He actually took the news pretty well. There's no doubt he wanted a boy, but I think I had him prepared for the very real possibility that this baby would be a girl. The only bit of disappointment I have is that Neil won't have the son he wants and that I can't use our chosen boy name--Leighton James--because I love that name! C'est la vie.
Here's how it went... I said to the ultrasound tech (not sure what else to call her) that we'd like to find out the baby's gender if she could tell. Neil chimed in immediately, "I already know what it is." and she asked, "What do you think it is?" He answered, "A girl." Her reply: "That's what it looks like." It seems to me that she had only seen that area for a split second and I didn't even see what she was looking at, but she is a very experienced ultrasound tech, so I think we have to trust her judgement on this. We had an excellent view of everything else--limbs, hands, feet, spine, heart, brain, etc. And this is the first time we got a really good side profile picture. Sophia and Madeline just wouldn't cooperate for that! (I bet they won't cooperate to get into the tub right now either!)
