First off, it's 9:00 p.m. and both girls are asleep--and I'm not! It has become increasingly difficult to get both Sophia and Madeline to sleep at a reasonable time without Neil's help. Madeline has recently decided that she'll only go to sleep in my bed and she wants me to stay with her too. This is a complete change for Madeline. For a year and half, she has gone to sleep just fine on her own and in her own bed. For the past couple of weeks now, Sophia and Madeline have been calling me back and forth between beds and it goes on much too long. I think part of the problem is that Madeline doesn't need much of a nap anymore and when she sleeps for a long time at Sharon's, she's really not very tired when I'd like her to go to sleep. She didn't have a nap today though, so she was much more ready for bed tonight. Also, Sophia went to sleep on her own while I was laying with Madeline! That is SO rare! I'm proud of her. Wish I could get her to do that more often.
Ahhh, it sure is great to have four days off work. So often on Sunday evening I wish I had just one more day to get a few more things done around the house. How nice that I do have that extra day this weekend! It will be nice to head back to work on Tuesday with the laundry done, food in the fridge, and the house not a complete disaster.
Friday was my recovery day I guess. I was so tired it was unbearable, and I actually layed down for a nap while both girls were awake (and without Neil here). I don't do that normally because they get into trouble pretty quickly without supervision. I just couldn't stay awake though. Even so, I was only able to sleep for about 10 minutes at a time because Sophia kept wanting or needing something (even though I begged her to leave me alone for awhile). Madeline fell asleep in the living room while I was sleeping, so once I knew that, I didn't have to worry about her anyway.
On Saturday, I took the girls to Wascana Park to watch the dragonboat races. We arrived just in time to see my team, Sheena's Snapdragons (the ladies' team I was on the past two years), in their second race and they won by quite a margin! I learned that they also won their first race and so were to be in the A final. Unfortunately, I couldn't see that race and I don't know how they did. Watching that one race took about three minutes and then we spent another two hours walking around the park and playing in the playground. I also spent a good chunk of time saying no to the many treats being sold in the park, and consoling Sophia when the face painting group shut down just as we got there. That wasn't much fun. We were all very tired by the time we reached our van at the end of our excursion.
To my surprise, Neil arrived home mid afternoon. The combine had broken down again. It was nice though because we didn't have to rush to take the girls over to Laurel's and get to our 6:00 p.m. dinner reservation. We had a great supper at the Cathedral Village Free House and then went to the musical, Mamma Mia! It was great! I really enjoyed the music and performances. We saw many people there that we knew too. In fact, our seats happened to be right next to another couple we know. Many thanks to Laurel for having the girls overnight! We hadn't been out for a long time.
Neil stayed home today and went to the Rider game at 4:00 p.m. He almost went to the farm this morning, but decided to stay home because I was so desperate for him to be here just one day while I'm at home. It may sound pathetic, but four consecutive days on my own with the girls is just too much right now. Work days are different. They're exhausting too, but in a different way.
So today was a good day even though Neil left half way through! We got quite a few things done around the house and yard. Plus, we did some shopping together. And even though Neil wasn't here, I made a good supper for myself (the silly girls wouldn't eat it, of course). It was Neil's idea to make a frittata and mine to roast some of the vegetables. It turned out great! If anyone is interested, I posted the recipe to my.food.log this evening: Fabulous Frittata. (I haven't posted there for a long time and I was surprised to receive three spam comments within minutes of posting. Typepad is much better at blocking spam.)
Well, I have two more scrapbook pages that I want to do before next weekend and I think I may even have enough energy right now (9:40 pm) to go get started. Amazing. Oh, I just heard the fireworks begin for Saskatchewan's Centennial Celebration. Too bad we couldn't go, but the girls were too tired (and I'm glad they didn't know about it).
