We had a really nice Christmas. On Christmas morning, the girls slept in until 9:00 a.m. which is very late for them. Neil and I were both awake much earlier and wondering when they were going to wake up. It was so easy and relaxing to get up and open gifts in our own house with just the four of us.
The girls were convinced that Santa was here. He had eaten his cookies and drank his milk, and the reindeer left bits of carrot on the back step and patio because they were in such a hurry! Sophia and Madeline both got what they wanted from Santa--a Belle dress (from Beauty and the Beast) and a Care Bear, respectively. They're enjoying all of the gifts they received for Christmas this year.
My Mom and Dad came to our house in the afternoon on Christmas day. Mom had roasted a turkey and made dressing and gravy. It turned out very well and was still hot after the hour long trip to our place. We supplied the rest of the food and together we had a delicious Christmas dinner. It was a great afternoon and evening. The girls love playing with their "Yellow Grass Grandma and Grandpa" (that's what Sophia calls them). Dad even took them to the park for a little while and helped them make a snowman in our front yard. All in all, it was a great day!
Yesterday, Boxing Day, was Neil's 36th birthday. For some reason (I think because Christmas was over), I suddenly had the urge to go out and get the rest of the baby supplies we need like nursing pads, baby shampoo, etc. So in the morning I went to the Walmart zoo and picked up almost everything we need. Parking was difficult and the store was packed with Boxing Day shoppers, but the pharmacy and baby product areas were relatively quiet. I'm just glad it's done. As each day passes, my desire to go shopping will only decrease. I don't like walking too much these days as I tire out rather easily.
At supper time, there was a World Junior hockey game on TV (Canada vs. Finland) that Neil wanted to watch. Darren and Ali came over to watch the game too and brought some of their Christmas leftovers. Along with our leftovers and some bison steaks that Neil grilled, we had an excellent supper with very little effort for Neil's birthday. And even though we had plenty of other dessert, the girls insisted that we have a birthday cake too, so I went out and got one from DQ. I think it was a pretty good impromptu birthday party.
I didn't take many photos on these two days, but here's a small album of our Christmas and birthday celebrations.
